Just a thought Chris, is there maybe something in your fs9.cfg thats causing the probs? Did you delete the .cfg before the virgin instal?

John, a CFG error would not allow the sim to load at all. I can load most airports, it is only certain areas, and the absence of 25 terrain files in the WORLD/scenery folder would be the most likely cause because without the terrain files, the SIM can't run, thus it'll crash.

Well, I got the files from another friend and that was indeed the problem. I installed the missing DEM files and now all works fine. :)

Glad you got it sorted Chris. Wonder how the heck those files went AWOL though

My CD #4 has a big scratch on it, so they're corrupted. I had been having an issue with Puerto Rico for a while, but it was due to scenery conflicts and other issues. I recently had enough of the constant scenery error issues so I did a clean install and then defragged the HD. I thought the scratch only caused problems on the photo cities (I'd removed them all ages ago anyway) but I guess those files were corrupted to so that's where they dissappeared to. I just need to get a "new" copy of FS9 to replace the old CDs that have gotten good and tired. The FS9 scratch probably happened just due to wear. I have 2 CD drives and FS9 #4 is always loaded in one except for rare occasions when I'm playing a music CD while playing another game or doing a CD-to-CD burn.

Rgr that Chris ;-) Can't see why you don't use the NoCD patch though.. unless of course you don't have a full load. It'd certainly stop your No4 disc getting used and abused! :)

Because I've never had good luck with NoCD "patches". The last 2 I had ended up corrupting the program so bad I've never been able to use those programs since.

Hi Chris

DO you mean programmes other than FS?

I've never had or heard of them corrupting FS. Inn my case FS kept stopping without it on the old machine due the the CD reader playing up..

I use VirtualCD which always has an image of CD4 in it...It doesn't get scratched.

Hmm, maybe I should do that too. My years old disc 4 is looking rather tired. I tried a no-cd patch once but it wouldn't work.
