Arrestor wires and catapults

Post by hobby »

I run FS9. Would anyone care to recommend the best arrestor wire/catapult addon please.

I want to practice with a Gannet and Goshawk ready for the day when the Hawker Seahawk arrives.

3wire by Rhys Eddy is pretty good. It's free and doesn't require to much setting up.
Search for 3wire on Avsim.

Without doubt you must get 3 wire , which does what you ask and is pretty easy to install on any add-on carrier, like the freeware Ark. It is not easy to find however (took me ages, as I lost my old copy), Aussim is where I found it (you have to register to download stuff, however), follow this link..........

Someone asked the same question over at Sim Outhouse.

So for an alternative option (RBCO) read here:

and 3wire is at Avsim:

Is the version of 3-wire you're talking about the new FSX compatible one?? I'm still trying to get my hands on it

Alas not Dave, that link on his site is 'impossible' and he has 'gone to earth' since May. The FSX update for Christmas will have this stuff (on moving carriers) and the MS guys says (that although they did not think about it :@ ), there was no reason why these FXs and coding could not be applied to freeware add-ons too!

Many thanks. I picked up '3 wire' from allnodes and put it into my FS9 system. I attempted to use the tool supplied to define the arrestor wire area on 'Arromanches' but I just cannot get the data gathered transferred to the 3wire data, ie I cannot add any entries to the list of carriers that comes with 3wire. The manual is not helpful on this point - no way can I get 'Ctrl +V' to work to transfer the data gathered successfully by the tool. Can anyone help please?

It does work, you have to mark out (using an aircraft and 'Y' key to 'yaw' it about the deck. Draw a square, hitting the key at the start and at 3 other points. You must then save it and move the saved file manually into 3wires folder. It took me a couple of attempts to get it right, read the manual carefully, one missed item can mean a lot of carrier overshoots! The wires are invisible and are set to lines of lat and long., not specific carriers. You can set up wires on any runway, anyware! Call your saved file for the name of the carrier, it is added manually, as I said above.

For Calypso: You were quite correct,RTFM!!!! The secret was of course 'open the zonedef.xml document in notepad.' Once I opened that doc 'in notepad' all went well. More care on my part required in future.
