asking for help again.

Post by Captain Pugwash »

after my first real go at a repaint i decided to have a go at the aer lingus dc3 EI-ACD cargo plane. well after a long week and a half i have this to show. but now i have hit a brick wall and request advice from any painter that might be able to help out. ( only doing the maam as there is a severe shortage of british/irish texture's, also john's doing such a great job with the default dc3. ) still have some finishing up to do 98% complete.

my main concern are the air vents and other protruding parts on the roof section, i don't know where the texture's are to paint these green.
also in the texture package there are texture sets for the alpha. how do you add the alpha texture to the repaint. HELP

Hi Dave

As to the map positions

If there is more than one map make a copy and completely fill each map with a different colour.

That will tell you which map they are on

Once you find that then fill the map with a pic or some patteren..... colour blocks even to give away the position of the part maps.

You can add the alpha in DXT BMP.........ALPHA option in the top toolbar.

I always add my alphas that way.

thanks for the advice garry, just found out that the model i used was an old one and the air vents were not textured and as such this repaint is scrap. thankfully i can transfer the main body over to the passenger model but will have to repaint the tail section again. ahh! no rest for the wicked.
at least i found out how to use some more drawing tools within photoshop. so i'll go and fly a plane for the next few days and come back to this later. tonka

Hi Dave,

I'd noticed the vents etc not textured. I've just got the latest version of the MAAM and will be working through my list of repaints already done on the default and will try and replicate them onto the MAAM - I've already started playing with the Air Anglia DC-3's. Did you find which bmp is used to paint the vents etc on the new model?

Hi john, from the horse's mouth ( Mark Beaumont ). the texture set for bea cargo must not be used for any type of aircraft that has a solid painted roof section. unless you are painting white, or leaving metal finish. there is no way around this problem. the dc3 cargo version is the only one affected by this effect. all other's are ok as far i i have seen. hope this helps.
