Flight wasted...

Post by DelP »

Hi Folks.

I've just flown G-ALZO, EGLL-EGCC.

Flight was fine, 'bong' on start, aircraft had 130kg on board, added 220 more..I am a miser but that amount would cover a GA.

Halfway through the flight a 'critical lack of fuel' message popped up..I assumed that was FS spitting it's dummy so ignored it.

Landed, pulled off the runway, hit the brake key and waited.....no bong.

Went back to FS to discover that my engines weren't started....went to Flynet to find that I'm still at EGLL

I suppose I'd better do it all over again

Hi Derek

Just so your not alone I went for a flight yesterday up to Glasgow, and after the flight......Accidently hit my Exit FS Immediately Button' by mistake!!!! :doho:

Had to do it all again!!:brick:

Have now moved the offending key further away.

Hello Mr P(almer)

I've done this flight in the Ambassador and it's probably the one showing in stats (though I thought I'd done it more times than 1!! :worried: ). This shows a fuel used as 386kg. Given that there is 130kg onboard and you've loaded an extra 220kg.. were it me doing that flight.. I'd not have made Manchester either
Unfortunately.. I can't confirm the flight was mine and as I don't keep separate written logs for each aircraft type.. I'm not gonna trawl through 1282 flights to try and find it.

In the meantime, I'll run it up in FS and see what figures I get using FSNav as a ref

Never seen a 'Critical lack of fuel' message in FlyNET but then again.. I've never ran out of fuel :bandit:

EDIT
DP.. looks like it wasn't me as a flash out of the blue tends to make me now believe my flight was LL to BB. Anyway, I've just loaded it up and set FSNav to take me from LHR 27R to MAN 6 and FSN offered me 213kg.. as near as damn it to your additional fuel figure. The only thing I can suggest is that you're giving it too much 'LARGE' matey and boy.. you'd have to give it some LARGE to burn that much.
Just a thought but check your fuel scalar as this was reduced due to the original being rather thirsty. Here's mine..

fuel_flow_scalar=0.700000 //1.000000 orig

Hi Dave,

Thanks for all that

Successful flight this time and I was a little tight with fuel...added 220 again, ended the flight with 27 kg remaining, used 327 compared with 289 the last time I did this run.

No error messages though..the previous message was something like:
'Critical fuel level in selected tank. Press Ctrl-x to rectify' :dunno:

I shall try to be less frugal in future. :worried:

I'll leave G-ALZO at CC whilst I decide where to take a York for my holidays

ATB,

Derek

Rgr that mate  You have to fly the Ambassador incredibly slowly for it to break even.. 170kts max.. which is why I don't fly it often as there are more interesting aircraft that fly around or even slower than that speed

I'm wondering if we can't convert to Combi's as they'd make a great deal more dosh

Rgr that mate

I take the Ambassador to 8000 ASAP, then economy cruise, 0 boost/2050..
then a long slow descent..usually works out well..when I remember to adjust the props

Hiya DP

Higher than that matey. Cruise is FL150 in this old girl (she really was pressurised!.. though you'd have to work hard to get her to that between LHR and MAN)

Downside.. you have to remember your lights

Can't remember my settings otherwise I'd pass em on  That's the trouble with flying all but one type.. some I can remember, others.. I re-learn on the way! :worried:
