Wat-er landing..

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

just been sent this landing clip. I noticed the wing floats are'nt lowered which caused so much instability on landing. I wonder whether the pilot forgot or perhaps it was down to a mechanical fault? :dunno:

Difficult to say from such a short clip mate. He does look like he was coming in rather 'hot' giving the impression that had the floats been deployed, they might have dug-in anyway. Very little about that clip looks right

I seen that a few times before and all the previous describe it as a take off.

When he realises he won't get off he tries to turn the corner but is going too fast.

Sounds and looks like he is on high power

Ah.. that would explain why he's 'hot' then!! The clip makes rather more sense now

Is this the one where the Goose comes around a bend in a creek and ends up on the beach? If so, the pilot was "hot-dogging" down the river to show off to part of a film production crew (it was a movie camera that got that footage). He messed up, hit the water when making the turn and it caused what you see. He wasn't intending to hit the water, just stay VERY close to it. The director liked the footage so much (no injuries, except the pilot's ego, in the accident) that he included it in the final film.

Here's the full story:

Good. I was at work and couldn't see the video. Now that I'm home I can look and double confirm it.

BTW, this is not the "Hoot" Gibson of US Test Pilot fame. I have no idea how this "Hoot" got his nickname other than it appears his flying is good clue (i.e. "That guy's a hoot".
