Prop feathering animation

Post by tekman »

Good evening,
I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to give me some guidance regarding an animation issue in FSDS please.

Fundamentally I need to know how to apply a prop feathering animation to prop blade parts in FSDS please.

Part names, parent child relationships (no jokes please) Axis locations.
Ok I’ll be honest I did find instructions on how to do this some time ago but cannot find the documentation on or off my PC, so much for my filing system.
The feathering animation on Derek Palmers Dove is what I would like to achieve on my model so if anyone can jog my memory please I would be most grateful.

All the best

Peter

Incidentally did Abacus ever release the update for FSX as I believe they did say they were going to contact registered users when they did? I don’t get online as often I’d like.

Hi Peter

The update for FSDS3, as far as I'm aware, won't be coming anytime soon..

The feathering props on the Dove were achieved with a lot of help from Rick and Saverio Maurri's XML..and here we delve into the dark arts..and sadly I am a novice... :crying:

The Dove prop blades are tagged, two engines, three blades, as follows:

lever_prop_pitch0_blade1 (engine 1)
lever_prop_pitch0_blade1_slow
lever_prop_pitch0_blade2
lever_prop_pitch0_blade2_slow
lever_prop_pitch0_blade3
lever_prop_pitch0_blade3_slow
lever_prop_pitch1_blade1 (engine 2)
lever_prop_pitch1_blade1_slow
lever_prop_pitch1_blade2
lever_prop_pitch1_blade2_slow
lever_prop_pitch1_blade3
lever_prop_pitch1_blade3_slow

The Dove was made with FSDS2.24..but hopefully this will put you on the right track...

More to follow...

ATB,

Derek

edit: Sorry Peter..I should have explained that 'blade_1', for example, is the still blade. 'Blade_1_slow' is a copy of the 'still' blade and is what FS starts moving when the engines are started..this then runs into 'Prop_blurred'

Hello Derek, I was rather hoping you might pick up on this post as it was your Dove's feathering animation that inspired me to have a crack at this.
Still hate modelling prop blades though.

I understand exactly how to do this now and have it working I believe how it should be.
Correct me if I'm wrong did you tag lever_prop_pitch0 with blade just for clarity when sorting out the animation?
It certainly makes sense to do that as I labelled things as

lever_prop_pitch0
lever_prop_pitch0.1
lever_prop_pitch0.2

which wasn't that clear to work with but I got the desired effect.
Please do post up the rest of it anyway as I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't know how to do this.

Thank you Derek, helpful as ever

Regards

Peter
