Ah but I have to get to the UK first :dunno:

Point here is some of the younger members have a better chance of seeing VC 10's now than I ever have

Well, make a Holiday of the Cotswolds for a week, and visit then.

You've got until about 2015!!

I last saw a VC 10 during a trip to Heathrow in 1993

I've seen VC 10's on about six occasions in my whole life..........apart from a few overflights in the 60's/70's
I feel like an idiot for whinging on now.

ZD235 - first flight, 17.5.65 - IS THIS ONE STILL WITH US?
According to Jelles site 'A little VC10derness' (my online VC10 bible).. sadly, ZD235 is scrapped mate  I don't know how many CMk1's we've lost or if they're all still running. Too late for reading I'm afraid

Didn't realise we still had (comparitively) so many. Obviously they're relying on superior servicability with the A330 if it replaces both the 10 and TriStar fleet with just 14 aircraft?

Remember my father taking me to an air display at Hucknall (I think) when I was about 8 years old. Lo and behold there was a VC10 which gave a display with the captain speaking to the public at the same time, I stood transfixed at what was to me, a wonderous sight with its' four engines to the rear and of the B.O.A.C. colour scheme. First time that I had ever seen a passenger aircraft (apart from the TV).

I can only recall one sentence as he flew along the runway commenting on the engines and that was "If I apply full power now, the noise from these engines will deafen you"!!

Surprisingly, being my first ever visit to an airshow, the VC10 is the only aircraft apart from a DC3 that I can recall seeing!!! :worried:
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Thanks for the updated list, Tonks.

So, 16 left then. All the K.3's that have ever been, are still on strength, and yet suprisingly, the K.4's (which came much later) are nearly all gone! I think three (maybe four) C.1's have been scrapped to date.

Amazingly, it took about 30 years to purchase them all (C.1's 1966, K.4's 1996-ish.)

As I recall, in the mid 90's when the all the K.4's had come into service, there reached a peak of 27 VC10's in RAF service.
