Assuming your using an Nvidia card, going to windowed mode means you are simply using the settings from the `Global` driver option, not sim-specific ones. So the obvious solution if the windowed mode gives you back your preview, is to use the same setting for FS!

That's probably true mate but as I've not used 'Windowed Mode' since.. well, years.. it is not something I'd ever consider going back to for the obvious reasons. Casting my mind back, this phenomina only began to manifest itself with the Nvidia 6600srs (and on) and up to that point.. I'd been a dedicated Nvidia user for years. However, during those years.. ATI had clawed back much of what it had lost to Nvidia so I kept the 6600GT running for a few weeks before binning it for an ATI X700pro. While the 6600GT ran ok and I could get back the spinning aircraft by lowering the AA setting, this was at the expense of MASSIVE draw times for FSNav.. massive and totally unacceptible hence the chop back to ATI.

Interesting to note that at Tom's Hardware.. the 6800GT (256mb) shows a frame rate advantage under certain games of double that of the X700pro (128mg). However, Flightsim is the ultimate 'leveller' and thus.. the difference between the two is barely noticeable (if at all) for 98% of the time. Anyway.. this is well off topic!!

Simon & Dave,

You clearly know more about the "why" than I do! But, it's an easy"fix" and gets around the problem for me.

I dunno about knowing more about the 'why' bit but I certainly concur that it's an easy fix  Pity it does it in the first damned place
