Victor XL231 is in need of /your/ help!

Hi chaps,

As some of you may or may not know, Elvington airfield in the UK is home of a very special aeroplane- Handley Page Victor K.2 XL231, 'Lusty Lindy'.

Until very recently she has been run and maintained to the highest degree, and has also taken part in every air show since (and including) 1994. She remains possibly the only fully complete Victor in the world.

We on the Lindy team have run into a problem, however, which unless sorted- means that Lindy will never run again and will become a static exhibit. We currently do not have the funds to cover Lindy's insurance both on and off the airfield. It is now to the public we turn in order to plead for help.

Can I ask that if this wonderful aeroplane interests you that you may take a moment out to consider making a donation, of any amount, to the Lindy fund. We have a dedicated website set up for donations and for more information, please see the website.

I thank you all in advance on behalf of all of the team for reading this, and for hopefully helping another piece of living British history survive.

As luck would have it I'll be at Elvington on Friday morning, rain or no rain! I'll surely put something 'in the tin' when I get there.

I remember an awesome taxi run one Sunday when it was wet underfoot. CLOUDS of steam with 'Lindy' screeching out of the front of it, superb stuff.

The last time I was at Elvington I was lucky enough to witness engine starting and systems check. Absoloutely fantastic. We cannot let this important part of our heritage die through lack of finance.

So I found out yesterday.

The people there were pretty stand-offish about your aircraft, commenting 'It's a privately owned one, you'll have to contact them direct'. :sad:

When she must be one of the main attractions, and surely the largest, you'd think they'd have a more enlightened attitude.
