Bad trip, beautiful scenery...

Post by DanKH »

Last evening I was happily as ever flying steadily from FIMP to FSIA.

I was really exited to see the beautiful scenery created by Colin Penney, and the trip was merely 2½ hours flight.

So off I went. FlyNET loaden, FSMetar - check... and up and away. Until I approached the Seychelles....Freeeezzzzeeee.  :k: ......CTD....!
Bugger! It's now 01.30 hours---time to bed....got to start early tomorrow..

So. Today I thought I'd find the culprit, suspecting the mesh OR the LC files enclosed in Colin's package..... :nahnah:

Yes! took off from my Auto-saved flight (Thanks Peter Dowson) and flew the whole way through.....good then...
On with the mesh now, restart, and again I took up from my auto-saved flight...this time it went well too...
Aha! gotcha, :yipeee: Just have to prove the mesh is bad, and then off to send Colin a mail.... :poke:

On with the mesh...same procedure....and....flew the whole way through... :k:

Well now I'm back where I started, but without a CTD on my trip... :dunno:

Meanwhile my booking at FlyNET was auto-cancelled....

:dunno: Microsoft or some twilight memory address.....

Well everything looks good now, including objects, mesh and LC..so tomorrow I think I'll book that flight again, and hopefully this time complete it the right way...

Oh...this is how Colins FSIA Seychelles Intl. looks like....very slick...

Hey! Get out of the VIP parking area! VC10s park over by the fuel tanks

Image

This is a pretty rare shot of TWO VC10s at SEZ at the same time. In fact it was rare to have any two aircraft on the ground at once. The picture was taken from G-ASGB transitting en-route from Johannesburg to Colombo. G-ASGL was on a turnround, probably from Nairobi. It was late February 1973 - exactly 34 years ago! Looks like the dispatcher is working up a bit of a sweat!

I nearly ended my days in that terminal building, Dan. It sends shivers down my spine to see it in your shot. We were in a 747-236 around 1990 and the tail end of a typhoon was lashing the area. Those cliffs behind the terminal create the most awful wind shear. It blasts across the sea and when it hits the cliff it goes up and circles back like surf. We had a real white-knuckle approach (over the fuel tanks) and at about 100 ft the wind got under the tail and lifted it, pushing the nose down and swivelled tha a/c towards the terminal. I can't explain what it feels like to be in a 747, nose down at 100 ft flying across the grass towards the terminal. Somehow, the skipper caught it, slammed the power on and got us out. All of the crew were physically shaking and there was none of the usual banter afterwards because we knew we were going to have to do it again.

Fortunately the wind was kind to us on the second approach, but when we saw the ground staff we realised just how close we had come to disaster. They were in a worse state than we were. They had been standing outside watching the landing and to see this monster suddenly veer towards them with it's nose down and engines roaring had been too much! Many of them were in tears and I think it might have been more frightening outside than inside. I've had a few narrow escapes but that was undoubtedly the closest. Certainly one of my most frightening experiences. Thank goodness I survived or you lot would not have had the benefit of all my posts over the years

Many thanks, Dan, for bringing it all back (NOT!) Safe flight out!

Ian

Great story Ian, and your God (or god) may have a good eye to you....

I'm sorry for the VIP spot, but that's where the ATC guided me ... :dunno:

Me, I'm pretty glad you did survive, otherwise, where should I else get all those stories and timetables from ;-)

Well, Dan (capital D  ), whichever one it was made a better job of it than the one which is supposed to be looking after the poor people of Darfur

seychelles scenery

Post by xaviguiamet »

thank you all for the quickly answer. I have read at "Air Seychelles VA" a Colin Penney forum message that refers for a recent completely new Seychelles Scenery. do you know something about?
