Just out of curiosity ..

Post by DanKH »

Hi

I wondered what a system with the following specifications would cost in UK:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB
1024 (2x512) MBRAM, DDR2, 667 MHz, 4 sockets, max 8 MB
320 MB HDD, 7200 rpm, SATA
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB
DVD +/- R/RW 10/100/1000MBit netadapter
High definition ALC 883 (7.1 channel) sound
Motherboard: GigaByte GA-965P-DS3
Vista Home Premium Edition Preinstalled

It is sold for 13299 DKK which is in the neighborhood of 1210 GBP.

(If I should go for it, I might change the card to a 8800GTX, 768 instead, and 2048 MB RAM. which of course would make it a bit more expensive but not that much)

Yes I know. In fact it is said to eat all available, and scale itself to what is actually available, no idling here....

I'm not sure that we can the read the amount of memory used as we did before Vista. Am I right, or it it way out?

On my system it will use about 600MB just doing windowsy stuff. when running FSX, its 1800MB  I dare say it would use more if it was there

Well, as the specification says, 4 sockets there and up to max 8 GB, so there is room for expansion

If I come into a spot of cash I fancy seeing how 8GB preforms on 64bit and how much it uses.

But in the meantime I'll stick with my 2GB
