I think it's real footage.........but maybe not :dunno:

The long telephoto foreshortening gives it a close impression but I doubt it was quite as close as it looked.

100% real, no telephoto compression, the plane really was that close to the boat... 4 times! :smile:

I had the distinct opprotunity to speak to the pilot who was flying the PBY during the shoot (he was flying for Flying Fireman, Inc. in 2004). He said it was the most nervous he'd ever been, and he's been flying PBY firebombers for over 30 years.
