More new liveries for Avro York

Post by simkarus »

Hi DaveB,

hope you are back from AVSIM  So let me tell you there are two more Avro Yorks in the virtual air:

The first one shows the York in BOAC's 1950s livery. Regarding the download counter a lot of you may have missed that classic outfit.

The second repainted aircraft shows Royal Air Force MW126 of 511 Squadron assigned to the personal use of Air Chief Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory, the commander of Allied air operations during the Normandy landings. He commanded thousands of British and American aircraft involved in Normandy and helped to devise the controversial "Big Wing" tactic during the Battle of Britain.

The idea to this project, repainting the Avro York in the colours of MW126 and presenting her extraordinary history, was given to me by the Frenchman Daniel Durand who researched the history of that tragic aircraft disaster. This repaint is dedicated to the people who lost their life on board of MW126 on November 14, 1944, when it crashed in a blizzard into high ground at Le Rivier d'Allemont, near Grenoble, France.

Only a few people may know, that in Le Rivier d'Allemont you will find a small museum called "The York Mallory Room ", that tells the story of the death of Air Chief Marshall Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory in the mysterious plane crash. Some parts of MW126 are still preserved there.

Regards
Hans

PS: Off to AVSIM again?

@Daniel: Many thanks. We both were deeply moved when working on this project.

You bet I am Hans

We will, at some point in the not too distant, have some Yorks for our VA here and all of these paints will be most useful  Excellent stuff

My favorate livery

Post by simkarus »

Hi Bridon Bear,

Thank you for your tribute to my repaints. Basically I like them all because each livery has its own specifics. But until now I like the MEA livery most because of that tiny little cedar on the nose. This was only realisable when Manfred Jahn created the “moydâ€

Hunting-Clan Air Transport on arrival

Post by simkarus »

One more Avro 685 York repainted by Virtual Birds Factory will soon arrive in another classic British livery at AVSIM.com: G-AMXM in colours of Hunting-Clan Air Transport at about 1958. This aircraft started with the Royal Air Force as MW323 and was involved in the Berlin Airlift in 1948/1949.

It was part of a fleet of four Yorks that had been purchased by Hunting-Clan Air Transport for introducing all-cargo services from the United Kingdom to Africa. This service really was opened by one of the Yorks on July 23, 1955. You will find more about the history of that nice aircraft in the readme file delivered with this package.

Best regards
Hans
