Tony MADGE has just waved his magic wand .... and updated the HJG website once again.

CLASSIC BRITISH FS fans might be interested in the following new items just released today :-

Anyone remember B707-321 G-AYBJ ?

This's the bird that was operated by BMA .... whom leased it to SUDAN AIRWAYS during 1974, where it continued operating on the British civil register and in definitive SUDAN livery of that particular period. Check out the HJG "B707-320" downloads for this grand old lady .... beautifully recreated/painted by the one and only Tony MADGE !

Folks might also be interested to know that Ben HARTMANN's spectacularly liveried NATO E3-C repaint is also now available .... featuring LX-N-90-442 as she appeared in the hybrid NATO 50th Anniversary livery of 2000. Check out the HJG "E3" downloads page for this particular beautie !

I remember Bravo Juliet - she showed up at Luton a few times.

Do have one funny story about BMA traffic guy from Luton - (It may

have been Mick Poulton who went on to be the station manager at LTN.)

Anyway he went down to Khartoum to mind the aeroplane - and went out

morning to get the aircraft ready for the days flights only to find that a

large feral cat had taken up residence in the cockpit - It took him alot

of scrambling to finally get it out - but not before it had inflicted several

bites that got him a series of the old rabies shots in the stomach.

For some reason shortly after his return to tyhe UK his girlfriend and

her three cats departed his flat in Stopsley.

For all the wrong reasons.

It was leased to EAA in 1976 in BMA colours and went tech on my return from holiday in Nairobi. Apparently choices were Cairo or Athens for the repair. Athens was considered to be the option that would take least time for repair.

Consequently we spent about 24 hours in a dismal "hotel" at the end of Athens airport runway.

But I would not have seen the Olympic YS-11 otherwise, or Viscount VQ-GAB which was the topic of another thread some time ago.

I guess there's nothing like an auircraft that takes you a trip down memory lane

I'm surprised/impressed to know that this particular SUDAN AIRWAYS bird is that well/personally known.

G-AYBJ was one of a few well known Brit registered Boeing 707's serving with foreign airlines a very common practice then.

Most leasing now is done by leasing companies but then it was the airlines who leased out their fleets and the aircraft often retained the registration.

British Midland did a lot of leasing in those days to help them cover costs with the operational fleet.

It is rarer to find pics of individual aircraft in the BMA livery as they spent so much time with other carriers. I don't think G-AYBJ spent much time with BMA at all.
