Unusual visitor at Duxford today.

Didn't expect to see this. It must have flown north for the Antarctic winter!

These are just general shots, but I did take some close ups of the details, so if anyone wanted to do a repaint of Milton Shupe's Dash 7, I'll pass on all the pics I took.

By the way, the Comet looks pristine in her new colours.

Been there for a while I think now - certainly one of the more regular Duxford pilots is a former BAS employee.

Any other interesting shots from around the hangars?

Garry, my understanding is that the Comet, Viscount and Victor have all made a temporary reappearance out side to allow the newly repainted Hasting to go into Airspace.

Paul, don't suppose you managed to snap a few pics of the Hasting in her new Berlin airlift colours?

Well for those who haven't been for a long time, here's the new exhibition building called Air Space.

Inside is only half full at the moment, but for once its possible to stand back and take some long shots.

Actually, it wasn't till I got inside that I realized they haven't gained any floor space for aircraft exhibits. The length-ways extension is a designated conservation area, with the old Superhangar doors now forming the partition between that and the main hall. The sideways bulges are okay for smaller stuff like engines, interactive exhibits and whatnot, but you can't get an aircraft passed the frames of what used to be the Superhangar. All they have gained is a strengthened roof that they can dangle aircraft from.

Avro York's looking nice!

In all the years Ive been going to Duxford, I never noticed this:

Everything else is as it usually is, Charlie. The American Air Museum never fails to impress, though it's so over-stuffed. You can't back up far enough to snap a B-52 without tripping over a B-29!

I can post pics if you like.

Gary, I think the Comet is going inside the Air Space, but at the moment, the Hastings, Buccaneer and Tornado are occupying the conservation area. They will have to be moved out before the Comet can be towed in.

They REALLY need to do something with the Victor, Shackleton and Varsity soon. They're all looking very dilapidated, so hopefully the new conservation facilities will be put to good use.

Sorry Alex, no I didn't. She's in the conservation area of the new Air Space building, stripped down to bare metal, but the light was so low I couldn't get a decent picture. I'll get a picture of her next time, which will probably be at Flying Legends on 7th/8th July.

Thanks for the info guys.

I hoped it was only temporary outside for the Comet as it's such a great job done it would be a shame to let the weather get to her again.

The York its looking immaculate.

I bet she has never looked that good before

I think that building, like Cosfords new one will be a mecca for aeronuts wanting to get up close and see/touch these great old aircraft.

From the point of view of a modeller they're a nightmare. You can't get far away enough from any single exhibit to get a decent set of pictures without another aircraft getting in the way.. sigh I suppose you can't have it all ways though.

That Reminds Me of when I went to DC year Before Last.At the National Ari/Space Museum Annex by KIAD it was impossible to get a shot of some aircraft without bumping into the rails round another section.
