Heathrow Gatwick Airlink

Post by Garry Russell »

An interesting link taken from a thread over on PPrune concerning the Heathrow-Gatwick air link operated at first by a Westward Islander and later by Sikorsky S-61 Helipcopter.

I well remember my first helicopter flight which was in G-BIMU from LHR-GAT and just prior to touchdown at Gatwick we swooped over the all white Comet 4B G-APMB that was used with outer wings removed as a ground handling trainer.

That jogged my memory - remember seeing G-LINK regularly. Had moved north by the time the other S-61N appeared.

One thing that surprised me was the phone numbers on top of the Islanders wing presumably to be read by people on the spectators gallery.
