If any sketch makes me feel frustrated it's that one! It's like Fawlty Towers, funny sometimes, but some of the situations just make me angry. For example the one with the body. For God sake, stop moving it around and just call the authorities.

Strange, Abbott and Costello and the 3 Stooges never really became part of the popular culture on this side of the Atlantic. Saturday TV often used to have A & C films (waaaaaaaay back kiddies, you won't remember), but I was never really impressed.

Even the Marx Brothers never really penetrated the consciousness although, personally, I'm a fan. I used the 'Groucho' image for a marketing campaign I was involved with a couple of years ago, we were always having to explain the relevance; whereas our US partners loved the idea from the get go!

Jetty, how can you criticise Fawlty Towers, isn't that considered treasonable?

Actually very few of the situations make sense in reality, but it's fun watching the snobbish Basil losing his cool and control of the situation - tell me you can't watch the scene with the broken down car without laughing!!!!

We used to get the Marx Brothers on TV sometimes in the sixties but I don't remember an Abbot and Costello film on TV...just odd clips and a cartoon series.

Saturday morning club at the cinema had Marx brothers along with Buck Rogers and Old Mother Riley..all old stuff by then even but I still found them funny.

They often popped up in the BBC2 Saturday afternoon slot, I know I've seen the dreadful one with the Wolfman, Frankenstein etc on more than one occasion. Saturday mornings you used to get the odd Charlie Chaplin/Laurel & Hardy shown.

And don't forget Flash Gordon and those hammy Childrens Film Foundation productions - usually with Keith Chegwin in a starring role!!
