Nope, this was a real aircraft that actually flew quite well. The test pilot said he had a job slowing down to land as even with the throttle shut it did over 250 kts in level flight! That counts out the 14bis for sure.....
As the XFY-1 had to back down onto it's pad when landing, Lt. Col 'Skeets' Coleman was flying it backwards, looking over his shoulder, for crying out loud! :roll:
I suppose I could also count the Lockheed XFV-1 Salmon but as it never completed a full transition I don't think that 'flying' is appropriate.

It's fun trying it in FS too, so long as you use the model with the RB VTOL mods. The textures are dire though, I've been trying to tart them up a but but not that good so far.
But at least hovering is getting some attention in the add on world recently and sooner or later....much later in my case there will be something that even enables me to hover

The pilot faces forward while the plane is going backward, which isn't quite what was implied in the original question. Based on this answer, one could also say the C-130 is such a plane, since it is capable of reversing. :huf:
