Emerald fleet moving..slowly

Post by Garry Russell »

I must say I was getting concerned for the ex Emerald fleet having stood basking in the glorious English winter weather :worried: ....fortunately the winter has been mild to the point of a none event.

All is not lost it seems. I had my Airliner World magazine this morning and there is a little piece on them in the form of an extended picture caption.

ATP's have gone to Coventry to join Air Atlantic and to Magic Blue in Holland.

Perhaps no surprises there with the ATP finding new homes, but the HS.748's are on the move also   with some destined for Canada and Bangladesh.

There is a rumour, stress rumour, that an HS.748 will joining the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

A shame that the 748's are not to continue flying in the UK  but at least if they continue to fly there is always a chances that one day they may come back with a yet to be born operator.

I read elsewhere that G-BEJD was to be offered to the IWM...if they were prepared to take it

Further reading towards the end of the mag has another bit about the former G-ASJT/XW750.

It has been delivered to Robin Hood where it is to be kept in ground running condition

There's you chance to hear one Jonesey

If Duxford gets one it will be static where as the one at Robin Hood will run sometimes so perhaps keep an eye on that and support it if you can.

As far as I know the one at Doncaster is going in one of the hangars (along with a 727 fuselage which arrived a few months ago) for instructional use at the new training college they are setting up there.

Hi James

Maybe that what the ground running means.........they can run it up for instructional use.

At least it's be saved as it has since it's construction been a research aircraft so always a bit special
