re the format will do, re the p/s well my7 original hard drive has not fluttered since day one, so I assume the P/S is ok..

If there is a problem with the drive, the manufacturer usually needs the code from the diagnostics (low level testing) before providing a replacement.

Assuming of course that it is still in the warranty period.
