Steve,
Just looked at the Simmers Paintshop site and I see that the Bright Red there has the BS381 number of 538  - so it should have been the same as what everyone was calling "Pillar Box Red".
But as DaveB was indicating, the model itself can have an effect on how the colours appear. I used the USAF colours from there when I painted Mike Stone's F-111F and was not convinced that they came out like I remembered.
Ah well the joys of painting.
But at least this Canberra is now fixed to everyone's satisfaction.

Interesting, as the bright red swatch on Simmers looked significantly different to the other BS swatches provided. Wierd. Anyway, as you say, its done and we're all happy now. Now I'm filing that bugger away and never touching it again!!!!

Steve..
After much digging, I found I still had an early beta of the Shack complete with RAE paint. This was by no means the finished article but you'll see what I mean about the blue. Shame as it's an interesting subject

Had the dynmaic shine of the model itself have been reduced, this would have looked fine but the downside was all the other paints became a bit flat.
Your Canberra looks a treat now and thats the important thing

Thanks for posting the Shack pic, Dave, I see what you mean about the blue there. As for the dynamic shine, you could always try the 'shiny' plugin that some of us used back on the Paul Foster B(I).8 Canberra release last year. In that case it lacked dynamic shine, so we used it to add it, but the plugin can also set a model to flat matt and other varying degrees of shine. It might not be able to override a model's shine if it is built in with the mdl though so don't quote me on that, you'd have to test it.
Model looks nice though

Tks for that Steve
It is true to say that both the model maker and the painter were 'learning' their craft at the time.. the Shack is an old model these days. I don't think James made another model though Gerry went on to become a staff painter at Alphasim. We're still here though!
