Didnt know they had one at Duxford (where I am guessing this is - hangar behind looks suspiciously like the USAF hall)

Hi Toby,

Been there since just before the old King died.. ok, not quite but a long time anyway. Cosford have one, Newark have one.. they're almost common!

That's a nice picture. Need to have more like that. :)

Lemme see if I can get a scan of the one at the Lancaster PD of their Mustang in front of a beautiful P-51D.

As they are 'almost common', it would be a nice idea to rob the Duxford one of its wings, and stick 'em on the poor old Hermes fuselage......

Only problem is, the engines wouldn't look right, would they?

I lay prone, in that compartment under the flightdeck, staring in awe as the pilot flew the Hastings through the spray and rainbows coming off Victoria Falls...I had tried to get up out of there, but there were so many 266 Squadron pilots standing on the hatch above me, gawping at the Falls, that I could not make myself heard. In the end I gave up pounding the hatch and just lay prone, looking out of the window in the floor. He flew quite a few times through the spray and then landed at Livingstone where we spent the weekend exploring the Falls on the ground

The date was June 1953.
