I was at Wharton last w/e looking at the Science Museum's aircraft collection. There is some rare stuff in excellent condition there including the Constellation, which is fabulous.

The downside was that I couldn't get to see the Trident or the Comet. Apparently the hangar roof is unsafe so no-one will be seeing them for a while (I would guess years). Does anyone know any more about this?

Thats it Toby,by the way Andy H the public are not allowed into the exhibits including Trident 3B G-AWZM(not heard anything about the roof though),but if you are oop Manchester way we will be allowing public to board G-AWZK for a meare Â£3-00 :dance:

Yup, Wroughton it is, wasn't thinking as I typed.

The public are allowed to look at the aircraft (but not board) on a limited number of open days such as last weekend, but sadly the Trident and Comet are off limits for the moment. Website for info on open days: http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/wroughton/

Andy H ive always thought it a tad silly not allowing people to board the aircraft,why have them??? i managed to blag my way into Wroughton back in 1987 (while closed) the curator at the time was a decent bloke and allowed me onboard WZM.

Some years back they were saying the Connie was so rotten the floor could not support the weight

I have no idea if anything was done since but severe corrosion was the reason it went there by ship and road instead of flying in the third airline series. It was cleaned up and repainted, looking very smart but underneath all that it was another story. :sad:

The Comet and Trident though should be pretty much in the condition they arrived in. They both flew there

Youre spot on there Garry,a guy i knew told me about the corrosion on the connie and that they were seeing to it,but that was five odd years ago. :think:
