Went to Newark and saw the old Cottesmore gate guardian I used to play on (and get chased off by the RAF Police) when I was a kid.
But I also noticed it seems to have gained a digit
Anyone know why ?

Hello Matey..
That's an interesting find. She's listed in Wrecks and Relics as being 791 and even the museums own literature says she's 791  Perhaps BrianW can shed some light next time he's up
EDIT.. this is how she was in 2004

Maybe inflation.....everything else has gone up
TBH it could even be an error
Many times in the past the wrong serial/registrations have been applied.
Not saying this is.......only that it can and does happen
Sometimes though in museums the paint an exhibit up as something perhaps more personal to that location or as part of a general theme.
A lot of exhibits wear false serials but in this case just being one number out does make one think
