HS 748 in FSX - Odd Texture Files.
Moderators: Guru's, The Ministry
Dave,
Of the 3 aircraft and using the current downloads {all three 748 texture packs with 91 liveries}, this is what I see:
Argosy: Zip contains the VCBits file that was e-mailed to me.
748 & 780: Neither installer generates the VCBits file
With the VCbits file installed both 780 and 748 have the correct door texturing but, as you note, there appear to be other differences:
780 VC: No textures on door frame and seat back handles
748 VC: As 780 plus the seat back front covers {these are ok on the 780}
The problem seems to be that these textures are not called up in the model file - it is certainly the 780 .mdl file that calls up the texture for the front cover of the seat back.
As to numbers, the 748 installer puts 45 .bmp files and 4 $ files into the main FS9 texture folder.
I reiterate that this is not being hyper-critical - the 748/780 remain the best and I was glad to get back to real flying after several months testing a new modern computer-driven jet. But, once I recognised a problem, I could not see why my systems consistently failed to install this one odd file.
Regards
John

Hiya Leif
Thanks for that mate. At least one possible area of concern has been ruled out
John..
One thing concerns me about your findings (in true Columbo fashion)
If the model isn't calling for those textures, I can't fathom why I see them here?? Does this mean I don't have the latest model.. not unusual for me but I'm sure on this occassion, I made the effort to go and get it. I have yet another pc with the 748 on and will check filedates

Ding - Dong!!
OK.. bottom line time. I have no idea what's happened
One thing is for certain and that is.. I'm in agreement with John's observations. Adding VCbits to the texture folder add's the missing door texture but seat handles/frame front seat back cover remain missing. Possible too that the door frame isn't textured but I can't be absolutely certain it ever was.
There is one person who will know :-$

"If the model isn't calling for those textures, I can't fathom why I see them here??" Not sure which textures you mean here?
However, as I see things, if VCBits is in, the door is fully textured - I assume as Rick designed it.
I also believe that you have seen that the installer does not generate VCBits for the 748/780 - but was it ever intended to? I guess that this has resolved my original question.
Similarly with the other textures - there is a difference between the 748 and 780 with the latter more complete. Again, I wonder what was originally intended? But this is such a minor issue that I suggest there are a lot more important things to get on with - like flying the beasts! And looking at the other forums here, I suggest your "one person" has also a lot more to get on with!
Airborne in the 780 at the moment en route to Glasgow IMC and navigating with an ERC - far more fun!
Very many thanks for all your help.

Hi John,
Well.. it has a lot of us stumpted here (though not Mr P as he's probably off RFactoring)
The moral of the story is.. if you want to have a complete model.. you have to be on the beta team. DO NOT ask them what they have cause they haven't a clue!!

I'm not R Factoring at all.
i asked that this subject was not blown out of all proportion which it now has.
none of it is of any relevance to anyone and all it has acheieved is to fill my PM's and e mail box with rubbish i did not need.
I asked on day one for it to be stopped but was ignored.
I keep seeing the comment that it does not matter but 4 pages says otherwise.
if my requests are ignores i see no point in me posting here.

Hi Rick,
The original context of the thread has not been the subject topic on the last 2 pages matey. The model is missing VC textures when installing into FS9 and nowt to do with FSX. They're certainly not life threatening but missing all the same.
Sorry if this is of no relevance

Hi Matey
Avsim is the only site with the file missing.
Flightsim.com has a full install in one part Base/tex1/tex2
still needs texture pack3 but has all files.
No problem but asked via PM that it was not escalated as it fills my mailbox from users that do not understand manual moving etc.
happens every time.
Just peeved me off a lot as i'm reaching DIVORCE point here & i don't need it as i have enough doodoo to last 3 lifetimes currently.
It's not just here but everywhere currently being uphill battles

Yo Mon Kapitan
Sri about the influx of PM's mate. I was under the impression the discussion was taking place in the open. It was never anyones intention to fill your inbox
As I said above.. what happens in FSX I have no interest in at this point as I don't have the sim. When it became obvious there could be a possible problem in FS9, I had a look and found this to be the case. I still don't know why some bits are not textured (even with VCBits.bmp in place) but it eased the problem a little
Btw.. include the files at CBF as having a missing file as that's where I got mine from.
There was a hope that the problem could be sorted out 'locally' towit we have had some success.. sadly not the hundred percent wished
I stress again that this is FS9 and not FSX. What mischief users get up to in that is up to them!!
