Trident Operational Altitudes

Post by Chris Harrington »

Anyone have any idea (or even just opinions) of what cruising altitude BEA would have wanted on a London-Paris flight for their Tridents? Off-hand, I'm guessing it's a relatively short flight, so perhaps somewhere in the neighborhood of 25,000'?

Thanks to Mr. Maltby for making such a nice aircraft that I have to ask.

Hi Chris,

I suppose your best man here would be PeterM but I know what you mean.. there's not enough time to get to FL300 (or above) on such a short route. I don't fly that route often on the VAjets for this very reason but when I do.. I restrict it to FL250  That's as good a place as any matey

Thanks a bunch! I was hoping to take the old Red Square, AVFB, on the flight. As always, it's fun to fly a DM jetliner, so your help is appreciated. Perhaps Mr. McL will chime in at some point in the near future?

Now to get the earplugs and the like; these things are loud.

Hi Chris,

I can't comment on the Tridents, but I can tell you we cruised at FL240 last night flying CDG-LHR, albeit in an A321.

Cheers

Neil Lomax (of the TPS) reckons about 25,000ft.

Thanks to all of you who contributed. I always like to be able to tell myself that reliable sources agree with where I'm flying at, so I appreciate all the input. Call it a commemorative flight to celebrate the news WRT Zulu Kilo.

As a follow-up, would the board suppose that 18,000 feet would be appropriate for a flight from say London to Manchester or Bristol in a 1-11 510ED?

I can tell you it was 20,000 LHR-Jersey in the One-Eleven

If that's any help

Garry, it's close enough, especially by my navigation standards.

Chris, done quite a few flights from Heathrow to Glasgow via Manchester on the BAC 1-11, usually for the first I cruise between FL160 & FL180, depends upon runway departure at Heathrow.

If using 09 Runway I depart via Brookman Parks' VOR and proceed to Daventry, then onto Trente leaving that at FL10, then using a mixture of VORs' and NDBs' intercept the ILS 06R at Manchester at 3,000ft.

If taking off from 27 I usually transit FL160.

Regards Nigel.
