HS 748 in FSX - Odd Texture Files.
Moderators: Guru's, The Ministry
Hi Dave,
This is what I do not understand. I have re-installed the 748 twice - once from my original 4 download exe files and once from a fresh download from AVSIM today. In neither case did I get a VCbits file anywhere on my hard drive.
Could you e-mail me a copy - I'd like to see what I am missing.
Many thanks
John

Hi John,
yup.. no problem. I've opened the file in DXTBmp and it's the right one. You can get the bmp from HERE
I hope your browser will accept bmp's as it's not zipped. Simply drop this into your 2004 texture folder (the main one.. where the $ files were located) and you'll have your missing bits
Even though I had the original being on the beta team, I downloaded my current copy from Classic British Files to make sure I had a full release version so their copy is to all intents, ok

Hi John and rgr that
I still don't have FSX and am in no hurry to 'upgrade' (if that's the right word!) so I can't help you with any of the probs you may encounter pulling aircraft across. However, I and many others here are still 'dug-in' with the old platform and will do whatever we can to help with that version
I gather that these 'common' textures now have to go into each aircrafts texture folder so best guess is to drop it into your favourite one and see how it goes

Hi John,
Just had a quick look and the VC cabin door (doing a 180deg from fwd) is light grey melamine matey. If you have DXTBmp, open up the file and you'll see the door there, seat texture and various other bits.. fuse panels e t c. If your VC door looks black, you have me there!!
Right.. working now so I'll not be around for a few hours.

1. Something has not worked in transferring the file this way. I save it as vcbits.bmp but, when I open it in dxtbmp, all I have is a blank with nothing on it. When I open the other hs748 bmp in dxtbmp, I see the contents with no difficulty??
2. I tried again downloading the HS748 files from the Classic British site. I installed the base package plus textures in this computer {which has a clean copy of FS9 I occasionally use for testing} - same result: no vcbits file anywhere!!
3. If anyone else, can send me a copy of this file by a different method {e-mail?} I would be very grateful.

Ps Dave - When we have sorted this, I can tell you why you made a good decision over FSX, eg the Chipmunk is still better than the default light aircraft.

The "that function" I was talking about in FS9, Garry, was not the "R"Garry Russell wrote:Hi Dave
In the above post I query what Paul says about the "R" button in FS.9....not FS.X
He says in FS9 he has to use it repeatedly but I don't find this the case
Garry
icon but the actual XML code to toggle the engine starter.
I never used the "R" icon in FS9 and only just tested it in FSX to
confirm that it doesn't work. I'm sure it works in FS9, since that's
what it was designed for. It's just that Aces threw everyone a curve
by "fixing" a function that designers had found a work-around for.

Hi John,
Hit that link again and you'll find the VCbits.bmp in a zip file.. just in case something happened to it along the way. Also.. ensure that when you try and look at it in DXTBmp, you don't save it. Depending on which version you have, DXTBmp may add mips to it!! Just have a look then close the prog. I've rechecked it and it's fine here matey so I'm starting to run out of options

Just use "Save to disc" to save it to your system, unzip it and
stick it in your texture folders.

EDIT: Looks like Dave beat me to it, I'll leave that file
there for a few hours just in case you still need it.
