They may not have been released in 2006, all of them, but these are the ones getting the most flying time on my PC
Sorted after estimated number of hours during 2006:
Jets: Trident 3, LvlD 763, BAC 1-11, DF 727, Tinmouse 732, PMDG 738, VC10, RFP 742 (The top 4 is really close)

Turboprops:
HS780,PMDG B1900, DF ATR 72, HS748 (The HS780 came late but it has accumulated lots of hours in short time)

General Aviation:
DF A36, DF Baron

Others I like alot: DH Dove, rick Pipers Argossy.
The Argossy could have scored higher, but I never seemed to get the grasp of flying it. It's due to error on my side, but the plane would just bite my but* on every second landing.

conclusion:
The HS780 is the best overall release in 2006 in my opinion.
It's followed closely by David Maltbys upgraded Tridents and BAC 1-11, Tinmouse 732 and LvlD 763 the latter ones in no particular order, since they are very close.

My favourite sceneries are VOZ, The ISD airports, The Ai mods from J Vile and FSGenesis Mesh and landclass i no particulary order.

Cheers
Peter

Well, I think most of the biggies have been recognised here! From a personal point of view, and being an unrepentant military buff, one of my highlights for 2006 had to be the superb Hunter trainers from the Major. In terms of payware, Alphasim get my nomination for their Swift, Javelin, RAF Phantom .....

Best Freeware: Rick's HS.748, New Chipmunk and KO's F-86.

Best Payware: My vote would go to the PD Spit.XVI, but I'm biased, obviously, so I have to pick something else. That would be the Cloud9 F-4 Phantom and a shout out to the shareware version of the Coral F-15 since it includes the two seater and the ACM loadouts and some great photo real textures. Other honorable mentions are the IRIS F-14 Tomcat, which is a must have for anyone who loves the big cat and the Shockwave He-219 is my favorite WW2 payware not by us.

Best Scenery (Payware): Flight Zone's Portland Add-on. I have alot of sceneries, but there isn't anything that comes close to this on my system in terms of a combination of great looks, great features, and good frame rates. I simply can't fly in this scenery enough. It's practically become my home airfield (Or Pearson right across the river in Washington) when I need to just go fly.

Best Scenery (Freeware): VOZ and Freeflow's Bahama's. If you don't have those installed, what the hell is wrong with you? :D

Freeware: I don't think anyone has mentioned the Simshed Wessex yet.

Payware: Hurricanes from Sky Unlimited

Scenery: I liked playing with Alpha's RAF Waddington, mostly for the AI version of the TSR2
