System crashes with FS9

Post by Andy H »

My first ever post after years of happy anonymous browsing, so I'm sorry it's a plea for help...

My computer crashes straight out of FS9 and reboots with the error message "The system has recovered from a serious error, etc., etc., click here ..." which shows "BC Code 9c", a non-specific hardware error according to the MS knowledge base. This can happen after a few minutes in the Trident for instance, or about 1 hours flight with the default Cessna.

My machine is a dual core Pentium D 2.8kHz with NVIDIA GeForce 7300SE, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP Media Center SP2 and FS9. I run FS9 with the default display settings from the installation, except at 1440 x 900 x 32bit. (Dropping the resolution doesn't seem to help).

I have tried:

-Testing the RAM with two stress test programs (Prime 95 and Memtest 86), all OK;
-Uninstall and reinstall FS9 without any add-ons;
- Monitoring cooling, fan speeds and temps (case about 50°C, CPU about 60°C, GPU 64°C, fan speed up to 4,000rpm);
- Updating to the latest version of DirectX;
- Installing the latest NVIDIA driver;
- Disabling multithreading for the NVIDIA driver;
- Ringing the PC World and Micrsoft helpdesks (predictably they blame each other).

Have I missed anything, or does anyone have any bright ideas? :think:

Cheers,
----------

Hi Andy and welcome to the nuthouse....

First let me know if you have any 3. party add-ons installed (FS9 add-ons that is), no matter how small or big, some of them might induce the error...

Next, does this only happen in FS9 or does it also occur in other programs.....

Which other programs do you have installed that runs at the same time as FS9? Virus checker, firewalls etc. etc....

The type of hardware you have isn't of that big importance unless of course there is a hardware fault.....

Normally such an crash should also leave a few log-files and some eventlog entries as well...

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum :wink:

Sorry to hear of your woes and tbh, I can't think off the top of my head what might be causing it. I know I got a 'Your system as recovered from a serious error' with an unknown driver problem the day before yesterday and all I'd done was reconnect a GoFlight GF45 unit :shock: Needless to say, all the drivers for it were already in place as I'd not bothered clearing them off when I moved the hardware to another system. It's been fine since but shows how fickle Windows can be :roll:

Hopefully, one of the tech guys will be able to point you to something meaningful :wink:

Dan,

Thanks for the reply.

I re-installed FS9, no add ons, all seemed OK for a 45 min test with the default Cessna. I then re-installed the DM Trident to give the computer a bit more to think about, but that's the only add on and I haven't seen any problems like this reported on the forum. Removing the Trident doesn't solve the problem either.

Only seems to happen in FS9, but I'm not really a gamer so it's the only memory and graphics busting program I run.

I tried stopping all services before starting FS9 too. No improvement!

Cheers,

My first question would be how long has it been happening and what changed on the system before it started?
If it's only just started, maybe a simple system restore could be the answer.
A bird in the hand will probably sh!t on your wrist.
