Flying at this time of the year can be a pain in the butt with only a few short hours of daylight but there is one advantage.. many of the early scheduled VA flights now begin in darkness and you get to see the sun rising. This must be my favourite time of the day
This taken enroute Coltishall to Ramstein in one of our 780's just hitting the Dutch coast Pity this flight ended abruptly as I passed Liege (SPI VOR).. as did the second and third attempts :crying: I know that John Hinson has sufferred the same fate today in the exact location and we have no idea why  Anyway.. I did get to see the sun rise 3 times today!!
Nice. Ive seen some really fine looking sunrises/sets up in Alaska where Im flying the 780 on cargo runs.
Is it usual to have to throttle back the 780 to avoid overspeeding on the cruise? Id be carrying about 50% fuel in each wing and about 6 tonnes of cargo at Fl210.

The shot really doesn't do it justice as there's nowt like sitting there in the dark with a pair of Dart's humming away nicely a few feet away
Jonesey..
I find the 780 so powerful against the 748 that I don't even use takeoff power any more. Cruise setting (according to my notes) is still 14200rpm and she will sit at or around VNO with very little difficulty so yes.. given the right circumstances, I'd imagine overspeeding would be relatively easy. Going over to Den Helder in her yesterday, I had a 15kt wind at 9000ft from around 225deg and she sat at 225kias all the way over.. in theory, a little on the fast side though I didn't get an overspeed warning The air wasn't very turbulent (not at all turbulent) so I'm sure no damage was done to the airframe Taking off at cruise power will give you around 993kgh decreasing finally to 893kgh at 9000ft in the cruise. Easy as pie
I was doing just under 300kts on the ground and my IAS was about 200 at Fl210. Rpms was about 13800.
You can feel the extra power when taking off on short strips fully loaded
Youre right about that ambience too, especially with just the backlights on
*Edit*
I just flew KSEA to McLeland Field with 5 pallets in the back, each weighing a tonne. Had a nice tailwind but that proved ill for me as I had to land on runway 13 in the dark with bad weather
Lots of fun to be had in the dark
