Oh what a beautiful day

Post by DanKH »

What started off so dark and bad-tempered turned out to be one of my best flights.

Not a long haul but a short hop from EGCC to EGPK.

Overclouded, raining, foggy, heavy winds and what a beautiful in-flight towards RWY31!

I even earned virtual money!

on client 6.4b ;-)

Ah.. 6.4b.. a client you can trust

It let me escape from Cairo this lunchtime to pick up my Tri3 at Larnaca towit.. we are currently a little over 1400nm to run at FL320/M.85  Getting a little fed up of flying in the dark mind you but hey.. it's better than not flying at all

Not that I in any ways would recommend cheating, especially not you.

But you could misread the time an offset them by 12 hours......

Or fly at another season....

Or upgrade your stars.dat (as mentioned in another thread)

Or even, heaven forbid it, take a sh.. on the actual times and fly at your own convenience....nah...thought so.....

But I can tell you, I've been there and done that...

You could also fly x8 at night....

I need to fly somewhere where there's perpetual daylight matey!! There is no way I can get out of the short VC10 flights being at least partly dark even in the height of summer with flights being 2045-2210 (outbound) and 0545-0705 return (though both these will be slightly better in summer). I don't intend doing the LHR-Larnaca run very often as it's just to darned long but even this would be better in summer.. 1500-1905 and 2000-0005 respectively  Even my short hops over to Europe in the Viking are mostly dark at this time of year.. likewise the jollies around the CI. We're just too DARK!!

John.. if you're looking in, what year did you take the Trident3 LHR to Lisbon flight from?? I did that flight in Nov '76 and swear to whoever that I was there for midday but our scheds have it as an afternoon/early evening flight  (Do you have one in your log PeterM)??

Hi Dave,

Whilst the routes are genuine, the scheduled times are not. Trying to merge aircraft routes that were spread out over several years summer/winter into what's basically a single week is difficult to keep any sort of 'flow'. Once the routes are known and as many duplicates are weeded out to make a sensible looking network I apply timings. Basically start with an early morning departure and keep going until late evening for the short haul stuff. When it's 'late enough' for a 'night-stop' I jump to the morning again. With short hauls out of Heathrow for instance I'll also stagger the AM departures by 15 minutes over an hour's start time and then loop back for another hour so there will be some 'same time' departures. Most of the VC10 flights were genuine times with a bit of tweaking, but the latest VC10 schedules I'm working on, the times have gone out of the window to fit things in sensibly. May be a few midday departures from Nairobi to worry a few folk  . By all means, adjust your Sim time to enjoy whatever time of day/season suits your particular mood. If you run a multi-sector hop the you could try it at different times of the year, with different initial start times. That's the beauty of this VA flying, no two flights will ever be the same.

Great to be back in the saddle again!!

Aberdeen Dyce to Edinburgh a really smooth flight with no FlyNET problems using v6.4b. Did not get fined for missing the 24hr gate either after problems yesterday.
