Viscount query

Post by St.Paddy »

Whilst banging away at producing some flightplans for European airlines in 1967 I came across some plans for Viscounts operating out of Heathrow on Air France flights.

Destinations were places like Lyon, Lille and Beauvais.

I was under the impression that Air France had disposed of it's Viscounts by 1967.

Has anyone any idea who operated these Viscounts and what livery did they carry. I cannot recall offhand seeing any 'Air France' Viscounts at LHR during my 1967 visits.

Any info will be of great help

Cheers

Tim

Cambrian leased G-AMNZ and G-AMOC

British Eagle leased G-ATDU and G-ATFN

Full Air France livery

Air France had sold their own aircraft by 1961

Blimey Garry, don't remember those Air France Viscounts - must have slipped into Heathrow without me seeing them. Hmm 1967 - perhaps girls were occupying some of my time

And I had forgotten those two Viscounts 'TDU and 'TFN. Did they fly in British Eagle colours before lease?

They BEIA wore full British Eagle before and after the lease

Air France operated the Viscounts for at least two years....The Eagle replaced the Cambrian in 1968, but perhaps MNZ stayed into the summer or maybe replaced MOC but I have no dates

G-AMNZ ??? A friend logged that at LHR in 68
G-AMOC 01-04-67-31-03-68
G-ATDU 31-03-68-September 1968
G-ATFN 20-03-1968-June 1968

All retained the British Registrations throughout the time with Air France.

So possible only G-AMOC in 1967

Incidentally G-ATFN was not back with British Eagle for long...two months later it crashed in Germany after a total electrical failure left it in cloud with no instruments.

The disorientated crew lost control.

Got the date (sort of for) G-AMNZ

April 1967-1968

So the two Cambrian are the ones for 67 and the Eagles only from March 68 but one was returned in June.

Thanks for the feedback - I just knew someone would remember!

However, the timetables would suggest that at least two were used in 1967 Garry.

Is there a 'paint' available?

Hi Tim

There is no paint for those 700 but Tony did a generic Air France that was in a similar livery but it has a French reg.
