BOAC Comet Routes from 1961

I have been compiling some Comet routes from a 1961 BOAC time table that I recently got possestion of. Unfortunatly at this time they were no comet routes to North America as they were using the 707 and Britania.

One interesting thing there is a flight from Dakar to Rio that stops in Recife but the return flight from Rio to Dakar does not show a stop there.

As to the Rio Dakar it was quite common in those days to have more stops one way than the other as the range was on limits and prevailing winds dictated this.

Don't know what the prevailing winds are in that area but it could be the reason

On some routes it was due to weight/length restriction one end meaning not enough fuel could be carried.

Speaking of the Comet.. I spent some time with her last night and, is it just me? or is she hard to handle in the pattern[slow} :think: .. I started getting a handle on her after awhile but the window frame seems to always be in my way on final. I guess over some time, I'll be able to use the left seat window frame as a guide ..

One thing I can say is that she has BIG time power. Even at MTOW I was nose high and breaking 250kts without a problem..

Hi Ivan,

The Comet is not the best view out is it!! :roll: However, there is an icon on the main panel that lets you move the offending pillar out of the way for landing. Have a look and I'm sure you'll find she's much easier to get onto the deck I usually pull it as far as I can over to the left which seems a little odd but it does give a nice view of the centreline

One thing I can say is that she has BIG time power.

And in real life I remember watching the BEA Comet 4Bs climbing out of Heathrow. Immediately identifiable by the angle of climb and altitude they had reached before the airport threshold.

Hi Ivan,

Take the time to read the Flying Tips in the manual which you will find in ...........\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\DMFS Shared Files\DH106 Comet 4 Documentation\Manual.htm

If you set up the power for landing as per the flying tips you shouldn't need to adjust power again until you cut just before your wheels touch. Just use the different flap settings to reduce your speed as required. She flies like a dream if handled carefully.
