Excellent shots UKMIL, that looked darn cold down there!

The Tonka F3 pics brought back a little snipette from the back of my mind. Anyone know what significance the 1435 Flt tail codes had? They were F, H, C & D.............

Apparently harking back to the Gladiators on Malta, they stood for 'Faith, Hope, Charity and Desperation! Tradition in the RAF lives on.

i can say it is cold down there, just a few more shots of south georgia. took us ten days to do the supply trip and drop off a small group of chaps from nepal. who carry funny bent knives.

the old man flew onto the beach, we had to make our way by liberty boat, fighting past the seals and chasing penguins.

best deployment i ever made,wish i could go back.

Had they removed all the Horse bones from the Beach in South Georgia
when you visited ?.
(looks like one of the whaling stations in your shot but it was a long time since i saw them)

When we landed there in 82 it looked like hell with all the bones everywhere.

I was sent down there in 92, naughty boys trip. little did they know i realy loved it. great lighting for photo's. the garrison we supplied was attached to gritvikken whaling station and the other station we got to get around was stromness.
It was like walking around a museum, everything was in it's place and just as it was on the last working day. i belive though things have deteriorated a lot since the weather has got warmer. there were some whale bones left but not many. i was more interested in the machinery and artifacts lying around.
the scenery was truly mind blowing, i had intended to walk to the helo crash site near gritvikken. even with my own personal severe winter weather clothing i turned back. i'll dig out some more whaling station photo's if your interested.
The only regret i have is the flight home. due to accention being closed, runway repair. they gave me a choice when my posting was over.
1. fly home ontime via herk, brazil, west africa and brize 35hr flight
or
2. stay and extra week and fly white whale brazil, brize and get my 180days out of the country and claim my tax back

i opted for the second but now wish i had opted for the first.
