just been looking at some of the literature on M$ website in relation to VISTA' s release. However not having much knowledge on the subject I would like to know whether people think its worth upgrading to it?
Apparantly having recently purchased a new laptop (which has a little Vista capable sticker on the front), I am entitled to an upgrade before end of March next year. I think theres going to be a charge for it.
Whats the script with it then? is it going to make FSX run better? thats all I am bothered about!
Sorry for asking but I know more about the innards of a ducks a**e than I do about Computers.

Been running Vista (Business version) for 3 weeks now. Its very good... different, but good. Thinks seem to be faster... HOWEVER.. If you want to use the sexy new front end, you'll need a decent grphics card. The new fron end (called Aero) will only run on good graphics card (Typically more than 128 MB). The thing that will be difficult for the home users is the variety of versions....
Here a a link containing so information which is very good.
i have been running Vista for the last 7 days, and i must admit, it looks good, and so far runs smooth, but limited driver support is annoying at present, but that will come good
I know that I'm a luddite, but why would I want to spend multiples of at least $159 (even at the present conversion rate, that is £80) to upgrade to a new operating system?
What does it do that Windows XP or even Windows 2000 doesn't do?
Forget the fancy graphics, I'm talking about functionality for the HOME user.
Ben has already indicated that there are enormous advantages for business users (if/when they decide to move to Vista) which is fair enough.
Good points raised Ian. Thats the main reason for asking really. My OS is currently XP home edition. If they are gonna offer me Vista for nowt then Ill take it. I'm reluctant to fork out for anything else now seeing as my new laptop has just cost a ruddy fortune.

What I would always say is that the least expensive way to buy a Microsoft OS is.... DONT... Buy a PC that has it already installed.
As the article I posted mentions MS have included a way of upgrading the version "on the fly" by paying a fee at a later date to "unlock" the next version up (so to speak)
There aren't really massive improvements for business users, but the OS is the underlying infrastructure and if that is improved, the scope to improve the software on top of it increases too.
It IS faster. It DOES make better use of Graphics procesors. It HAS got a shiney new front end, but as I said, for most wait until your buying a new PC, and for PC builders, if your buying a new Hard disk / Motherboard / Processor you can buy the OEM version for much less than the retail version.
