I've been playing with this today...Just a note to those who install it...Please Defrag your drive after installation as it does create a LOT of fragmentation (almost as much as installing FSX does!!).

Peter, thanks for the suggestion on this - I just looked at my C drive and it was in a real mess!

I've been flying this for a couple of days and apart from a couple of panel niggles (mainly with the canopy version) it seems fine, though I'd value your take on how accurate (within the limits of FS) the performance is as a real pilot.

One useful point for anyone that is used to starting "cold and dark", there's no power on switch on the panel (or in the checklists) so you need to turn on the power with the keyboard.

As far as things goes... If Peter likes it, then I take it as being VERY good.

There is no batteries with magnetos?

Well I had my very first flight instruction on the Tiger Moth and then after a few hours moved over to the Chipmunk as it came into service with the RAFVR...This was in 1949. So, I have a strong interest in both aeroplanes.

I have not yet done enough in this Tiger but I'm not happy with its flight dynamics. It is however, very pretty and that is a plus. I have to say that comparing it with Rick's Chipmunk, it comes second by a longish chalk. The Chippy has infinitely superior flight dynamics and really comes out top for looks as well in my opinion.

One strong criticism of the Tiger Moth is that it has to be held into the turns with a clearly discernable chunk of aileron and this is the exact opposite of the real thing, which has the perfectly normal "Spiral Instability".

I will have to look deeper into it and see if I can change that characteristic, but it will have to wait till I have a bit of spare time as I'm trying to complete my Trident Traffic package

Yes...I don't think there were any electrics but I note that the one I was using today had Nav Lights and a Radio so perhaps they stuck a generator on that Gypsy? All the instruments are suction driven from that venturi. I was also unable to make the Magneto switches move but I expect I was doing something wrong :think:

The word is that, apart form the DH82C the TM only had a small battery for the lights - you start it by swinging the prop and they haven't managed to produce an animated ground assistant to do that yet (maybe FS XX?) so there's no proper battery and thus no need for a switch.

I'd very much like a copy if you do get around to it. Certainly from my (albeit limited) experience of a few joy rides in various small aircraft the roll characteristics on this seem odd to me.

I think it is the best visual model of the three freeware ones available, the others being by Bill Lyons and an Aussie whose name escapes me. John has just updated the files for fs2004. I had been using the fs2002 ones with the .air file from the Aussie one and a couple of cg tweeks happily enough.

Admittedly I have never flown one, the earliest DH I trundled around in was the Chippie out of Woodvale in the '60s - dodging single seat Meteors coming whistling back from some air gunners range, perpetually short of fuel IIRC! As soon as the Meteors were in range we all got shoved up out of the way until they had landed. No sign of steam giving way to sail.

I've just noticed that aeroheaven have revamped their site and are offering the DH82 and Lanc in split down packages from the Justflight offerings. Basically, if you only want part of each JF package you might save money at aero, but if you want the lot, you're cheaper getting them from JF. The Mossie package is coming soon, and they are giving away their Grumman F3 and F9 packages.

Enough news, now for the weather - it's chucking it down up here...
