Continuing the Viking theme with Oversea Aviation

This company started in May 1957 and grew rapidly eventually acquiring a large fleet of both Canadair C-4 and Canadair DC 4M-2 as well as Vikings before collapsing in August 1961

The collapse threw many out of work without payments and others in the industry were laid off without redundancy money.

It was the first big collapse of an independent of the sort that was to be echoed in Court and Laker years later.

Basically they kept expanding and yet the extra work was not there.

Eventually with mounting debt the fuel suppliers cut the supply and the airlines continued for a few days on a limited schedule with aircraft still with fuel in the tanks until that ran out.

G-AHPJ in a none standard livery

The eleven DC4M-2 remained in TCA livery

Its amazing what you can learn - I always thought that Overseas was a Candian carrier - I remember my dad took us to Coventry one time at the end of his stint at Glosters (something to do with the Meteor NF14) and there were a load of what i thought were Canadian DC4s (now I now they were C4s) parked there - Didnt Mike Strangways have something to do with Overseas??

Hi Leif

I don't know about Mr. Strangways, the name of the founder was Myhill who also had something to do with Continental Air Services

But it was a long and complex story so he may have been but not one of the named as such

After the demise the fleet was stored at Gatwick

The Canadian North Stars (Canadair DC 4M-2) were different to the Candair C-4 ex BOAC

The five Candair C-4 G-ALHG, 'HN' HP' HS 'HY were sold to Derby Aviation, later Derby Airways and eventually British Midland

G-ALHG,S, and Y were flown and N an P were parted out.

Th DC4M-2 had not yet been UK certified so were not really saleable to the other UK independents and the eleven machines were ferried to Coventry for disposal.

TCA livery with overseas titles still CF- registered

AH yeah....but in order to paint.one need to research

And I have a Canadair North Start book........I knew this anyway but I could refer to it for checking the details etc.

I knew as well because th C-4 was a pet subject and has been since the unforgettable sight and sound of a BM C-4s climbing on full continuous power at about 300fpm or so it seemed over the school at dinner time on a Wednesday.

Never failed to impress me....every time

Bit's and pieces come from wherever and stick like mud....which means by now I must have a dirty mind

By the way, have you ever thought of bundling your repaints, say, by aircraft type?....

As much as I'd like to have them all, it's a real pain in the ar.. downloading them bit by bit.....

Personally I would prefer one big zip. But I guess if one were only interested in a special line of liveries, that wouldn't be attractive?...

Nice to have it confirmed

Dan..........No because as soon as I try then the complaints are that the whole lot had to be downloaded when only one is wanted

That is why I put them up individually, especially for dialuppers

It would save heaps of time and be easier for me to make one upload but that doesn't help an individual paint to be seen or downloaded.

I realise it take a while to download, but when I want a paint I have to paint it :roll: .....so it's quicker than that
