Aden cam Beverley reworked

Post by Rich »

Hi all, I have completly reworked my Aden Beverley paintafter I realized how terrible the original is with saw edge paint curves, I have aquired Paint.net a bit more versatile than Ms paint and can now do blended curves.

Underwing reg markings have been added and the roundels changed to the correct red and blue only after I found a photo showing the wing underside, the only pics I have found of the top surface of cam Bev's show only 1 roundel on the left wing and no reg letters.

Prop spinners and lettering more subdued colours and 106 removed from the fin as the photo does'nt have it there

The crew now have flying suits and I have included a replacement model folder which removes the VC and the scruffy french sailor co pilot.

Also included is a nothing fancy afcad for Dhala airstrip in the Radfan mountains, nothing fancy as it was a strip and nothing else, it is in the correct location according to the site I got the location from but do'nt have google earth to check, the heading is near correct the high stuff at the end of the runway realy is there and that close so only 1 way in and the reverse out and try to avoid late go arounds.

Uploaded to Classic British Files and Avsim today

Maybe someone who has a working google earth thing could enter the co ords and show us whats there

Rich,

Brings back memories of those Centaurii growling away, hour after hour after hour.....

No matter how short the distance it always took an age in a Bev because it flew so slowly, but the view from the dropmasters couch was magnificent! In the late '50s and early '60s I used to bum rides in 47 Sqdn's Bevs at Abingdon, no matter where they were going I was up for the ride. Must have driven my Mum nuts getting phone calls from 47 Ops to effect that 'Your son's off in G George to Brawdy this afternoon, should be back by 9 (or 10 or 11.....)
Regards
Kit

Rich,

Re your Google Earth request, this is what the location looks like. Took the co-ordinates from FS2004 using your AFCAD. See the marker near the centre.

Ian,

Many thanks for that, As I remember there were only about 20 buildings there and certainly no recognizable fields. Not much impression of high hills in that shot but they were certainly there at the end of the runway though in the other direction they were a couple of miles away.

Thanks I will study your shot and see what I can make of it

Here is a link to a b+w photo of a Bev on Dhala airstrip, the caption says it is landing but I believe he is starting his take off run, notice the proximity of the high ground behind if he was landing it would be much further away and with all his wheels on the deck he would be in reverse thrust and you would'nt see him for dust.
