Lovely sound and nice taxy-ing (I get to taxy 747's A 343/6's from time to time for high power runs). Thanks for posting

Couple of questions though -

In the first video what would the guy on top of the nacelle done if there had been an engine fire?

Similar question, why leave the cowlings open when you go for high power runs - if there is a fire, a) you have no fire warning in the cockpit, other than from the guy on the headset (if you have a headset man) and the on-board fire bottles are useless. The extingushant will just dissipate in the breeze. Admittedly I didn't see the what the situation was at the high power running area.

If it the RAF way so be it, but they are things that sprang out as differences to the civilian world.

Ben... that was Vancouver living... all that steak!

Paul... they were looking for leaks and you need to be up top as well. To get there you go over the fuselage and there were steps on the other side so he had a way down in a hurry! The fire detection works with the door open and we had fire cover on hand just in case. It has been know in civvie service for one of those doors to come off in flight but it all seemed to work and nothing was noticed til landing! She is a pretty robust old girl :-)

I was wondering if they were doing a leak check :)

God she is still so impressive even at fifty........ and I wont say a word about the steaks.....:)

I also found another vid attached to youtube of one departing LSV -- Quick question -- do they always port fuel through the surge tanks on take off or is that just because of the temp in Vegas??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TQz1gZF ... re=related

thought I had better post the link in case someone thinks I have been sniffing Jp10 again

Thanks for that guys... Leif, they don't always do it, but when they do it looks like tonnes of fuel is coming out but it is actually very little! It does vibrate like hell though as it comes out, so you are well aware that it's happening!

I thought as much, the 707 used to do the same, and even the 727 when its hot and high and full of fuel

Thanks
