Having just taken off, would the plane do anything else but return? And the journey to Lanzarote does involve some time over the Atlantic Ocean!

And I see that today the centre of Manchester has a major fire - all happening there.

These things happen. I remember being at EGCC when a Monarch Airbus struck several crows during take off last year. Nothing that the Pilots SOP training does'nt cover I'm sure.

Meanwhile, back on the ground and closer to home, I struck a rather large and confused phesant doing approx 125mph on a training course last week. That that was'nt very pretty.. :shock: :sicky:

Short answer NO.

regs say twin engine aircraft lose an engine LAND (actually the wording is
" at the nearset suitable airport"

Two herons???? Bet that wiped out ALL the stages - we took half a dozen
starling type birdies and removed 75% of the turbine blades on a JT8

expensive propostion - Airplane wins initially - but at a minimum of 1 Mill
per engine it - the birdies ulitmatly wind (even postumously)
