Well I was impressed!

Gliding at Tangmere, shame the airfield is not really there anymore!

That is impressive. It’s shots like this that are increasingly tempting me to make the move to FSX.

There appears to be shadow cast across the panel by what looks like either an instrument or a vent in the top/centre of the panel. Does the shadow move as you circle in search of a thermal or am I expecting too much?

That looks like it might be the oft mentioned bumpmapping

If it is then it will move.

Bump\ normal mapping in FSX (and with any other game) is a way to get flat surfaces etc to appear 3d.

With self-shadowing.. it works a treat on FSX-specific models.. on the exterior. I've not seen much self shadowing going on in VC's, though.. I might just be being blind.

I'd /guess/ that the panel image is a photo mapped onto the model.

Still.. that shot is mighty fine.

Hi Dan

As far as i am aware the self shadowing is exterior model only.

That shadow is indeed on the panel, not created by the sim, still FSX is a very good glider sim. I am doing a piece on Wolfgang Pipers site (No relation to Rick, as far as I know), go get a few gliders, they all work with aero tows and are tiny downloads.

Yes, that is VFR scenery, whats left of Tangmere (where I was taught to glide), is visable in that shot.
