Some pics of everyone's favourite new toy!

This is one operating with 185 Sqn at Cottesmore in 1939:

Note the crew entry hatch open just forward of the ventral turret. The pilot climbed in through the open canopy, fighter style:

Later in the war, and the more familiar Bomber Command paint scheme. This one was with 144 Sqn. at North Luffenham in 1942:

Same aircraft, the airfield below is Waddington:

Cross-country air test:

This one is with 1404 (Met) Flight, Coastal Command, in 1943:

Weather looks okay to me !

A little Photoshopping of the first picture.

The Hampden is indeed my favourite new toy. Great set of screenshots Paul, I particularly like the photoshoped 1940’s effect one.

One slight correction though, the pic captioned the ‘. . the airfield below is Scampton’ actual shows Waddington. The E-3D Sentry hanger is just above the Hampden’s tail. I only know because it on my doorstep.

Yep Robin, not the prettiest of aircraft is it ? Mind you, some of the other interwar RAF bombers were so ugly its a wonder they weren't outlawed by the Geneva Convention.

 Thanks for that Alex, I have duly corrected it!

You know, ugly as it may be, the Hampden is one of my old faves along with the Beaufort and Mosquito (yes, I mentioned Hampden and Mossie in the same sentence!). Can anyone point me to a decent freeware one?> I wouldn't mind having a crack at some repaints myself.
