We can remember when it used to be exciting and fun to watch (although i'm not actually anywhere near old enough to remember this one...)

Gilles Villeneuve vs René Arnous at the 1979 French GP. Breathtaking stuff.

Oh those were the days, manual gearboxes, slick tyres, no computers to control fuel, brakes etc. It was all down to driver ability - races were sometimes won and lost on a missed gear change. That clip reminded me of the days when Mansell, Prost, Senna, Piquet all raced competitively wheel to wheel.

What have we got now? Races won and lost on a pit stop or one car so quick that it runs and hides from the rest leaving the interesting racing and overtakings from the midfielders.

Mind you, having watched the Aussie F1 Louise Hamilton certainly is the one to watch!!

That Mansell clip has made me want to dig out a video i've got buried away somewhere, Mansell's greatest GP victories or something like that.

He's probably up there in the top 5 of my idols list, if you've not read his autobiography I highly recommend it.

Totally agree Nigel. I have a number of 80s races on VHS, Monaco '84, Estoril '85 and Adelaide '86 along with summaries of the '88, '89, '90 and 1993 seasons. Much more fun to watch and as with that clip you posted, the enthusiastic Simon Taylor in the commentary box.

Btw, I think its "Lewis" Hamilton, not "Louise"

I think we need to bring back alot of things to get F1 anywhere near how it was.

Slick tyres is one.

That will do for now. I feel I made a worthwhile decision switching off from Snoremula Un a long time ago.
