today free from giveaway of the day:

i've done some reading so i now understand what it is and how it works - but before i venture into the unknown...anyone who actually knows about this stuff have any opinions? Something that has less RAM footprint seems good to me but will it run all software OK? such as start up my anti-virus automatically and of course most important, being able to run FS?

now...actually got it. a short summary:

easy to install, no problems to-ing and fro-ing from explorer to aston. currently it uses 7(somethings) of ram whereas explorer uses 20. Cool...but that doesn't matter with 1.5gb RAM.

It's immensly customisable, many themes that are very different. You can have top bars, side bars, standard start bars, quickstarts...whatever. it uses a similar system to windows desktop also if you wish. The navigation can be solid or pop up, semi transparent or solid and can be fully customised rather than being automatic. After half an hour setting programs into folders into my nice top bar it feels like a well organised desktop. clicks, colours...anything can be changed...google search on your desktop and no start bar for instance. To really top it off it has no affect on programs whatsoever and can be easily modified as it uses 32bit png graphics.

I really like it!
