I've been seeing the adverts on the telly, build the Bismarck, step by step in weekly parts.

Looks lovely, 200th scale etc..

So in 140 weekly parts, (two years and nine months), at a usual price of £4.99 (first issue 50p) total £694.11, you'll have your own Bismark.
Just hope the newsagent has all the issues in stock!
But I'm sure it would an ideal Christmas 2010 present for somebody.
Don't forget to double up and make the Tirpitz too.

Has anyone been tempted to do this?

they have been on Watchdog a few times too (declined interview).

I always thought they only released the first 3 issues or so to the newsagents,then made you subscribe with a hefty upfront payment if you wanted to continue building it.

Sort of makes sence really as they then only produce the amount of magazine they need for subscribers,Meaning they maximize profit.
Tonks is right though you must be either rich or barking mad to complete the set. :madhead:

When I had them in the past it was a few issue then order from the Newsagent, no upfront payment but they sometimes came as four every four weeks........still no extra payment.

Soggy has it in one. In fact, you'll be lucky to see much past edition 2 for sale at a newsagent
The first time I saw that Bismark advert, I worked out the final cost and was a little astounded. However, I have recently got sucked in to the James Bond car collection (on the strength of the quality of the DB5 with edition 1) and while I know it's a rip off, to be honest.. I really don't care. There have only been 20 James Bond films so any production run can't be much longer than 20 issues plus you get 3 models (worth £30-odd if you believe the blurb) free. Little Nellie arrived this week along with the V12 Vanquish :dance: At the end of the day, you pays your money, you takes your chance.

If there is any upfront payment that will be the [articular newsagent wanting ahead payment

I had the Dolls house one then the Bounty and gave up on the Titanic as there were delays then loads coming at once.

No, you certainly don't pay up front for every issue. I get charged for 2 issues every couple of months so they always owe me

I think Garry and the others have it right, the newsagent won't keep ordering it after the first couple if he's not sure of a sale.

These things are common here, DeAgostini are just up the road in Novara, they're a large publisher not a fly by night outfit. I've never been tempted by the model ones but we have done a couple of the get all the films of X on DVD in weekly installments. Stanley Kubrick was the last lot.

When you work it out that's a hell of a lot for a model, and can you imagine building something at one part a week for two years nine months :brick:
