Classic British Flight Sim

OK, I might separate with some of my money for a new graphic card.

First. I consider to do big investment in a year or two anyway, so not a sky high state of the art card for the time being, just a minor upgrade:

Currently I have a ATI 9800 XT, 128mb AGP card, which is all in all a good mid-range card.

Now I've collected three offers almost the same price between 140 and 160 £ (if 1£ = 10 DDK)

The three combatants are:

nVidia 6800 extreme, 256mb
nVidia 7600 GT, 256mb
ATI X1600XT Sapphire, 256mb

All AGP off course.....

Now Which one of them would YOU recommend, and why?

Well Dan, I think you should go for the GT card, as all the comparisons that you have read while waiting for someone to guide you, has all indicated that amongst these three cards nVidia outbursts the ATI, in power, and in silence.

Between the two nVidia cards you should definitely go for the 7600GT as it performs better than the 6800, and is a newer card as well.

So my best advice would be the nVidia 7600 GT.

But better would be to shift to PCI-e instead, but that's a whole new story...

What's the rest of the system spec Dan?

I had a 7600GT 256mb in my old PC, but that old PC was really too slow for it.
That was a P4 2.66MHz system, 1Gb PC2700, but only AGP 4x.
I changed motherboard (AGP 8x) & went Athlon 64 3800 (same memory, same 7600GT) & it's blistering by comparison.

So I'd say 7600GT if you've already got AGP 8x & a fast CPU.
Otherwise probably a waste of money.

I dunno, the 7600 only has 12 pixel pipelines and the memory is only 128bit.

Currently running with a 7600GS and very happy with the results. I had a 6800 GT when they were first released, quite disappointed as it didn't seem like much of an improvement on the 5900 Ultra I'd been running.

Currently happily running the 7600GS as well. Just make sure you feed the hamster in the PSU, they need a bit more juice than older slower cards. If your PSU is not up to the demands, the card slows down to use the power available.

But I think this has been covered in another post about getting a big enough power supply.

Intel P4 HT 3 GHz
2GB PC3200 RAM
AGPx8
200GB HDD

So I guess my current card IS a bottleneck..?
