LOL
The Legend says it was Beechcraft that first introduced the idea after several
early Bonanzas came to a sudden stop as they turned off the runway. The orginal Bonanzas has keyboard style switches for everything - apparently the
flaps and gear switches were placed next to each other and as people turn off the runways they would reach over without looking and presto chango! instant braking - so apparently the good folks a Wichita came up with the two shapes so when you reached over you would know what you were pulling.
Like I said the stuff you learn sitting around BSing in Airport Hotel bars

Apart from Scarebus, where the flap lever is like a gear lever handle.
