Some of the older members (in terms of membership), may have seen these before, but with the AI scenery available, I thought they were relevant..............

All taken by my father on a trip (for my benifit), to the viewing platform on top of the Queens building, I guess about 1967ish.

Thanks Trev

The Air Inter were comparatively rare in the UK...although they did pop up now and then almost anywhere.

So many different shapes and sounds to be had then

No that it matters now..you can't see much anyway

Not just in photos!

July 1965 was a good month for Air Inter Viscounts

Two stops normally, I think. One in the middle East, another in the far east.

I think the original Quantas 707 s were turbojet engined and this rather limited their range. So IIRC a typical routing would be something like London - Zurich or Rome - Teheran - Bombay - Singapore - Sydney . It was the advent of the Fanjets and the big increase in numbers travelling which cut down the stops in the mid to late 60s

Great pictures. It must have been one heck of a noisy airport though!

Welcome to the forum Gevers1!

Yes it might have been noisy but imagine the beauty of all those different noises and engine notes...these days its either a CFM56 or a Trent! (well...perhaps just generalising a little bit there ;) )
