Been a bit blowy up here today, loads of trees down including one in my garden! A quick listen to atis told me the winds were about 35kts gusting to 60+ with windshear reported at 600ft with a loss of 30kts.
I loaded up FS and tried to land at Liverpool with fsmetar and I couldnt do it

Relatively tame where we were, although the TAF had gusts of 70 in it, and the actual was constantly gusting above 40...

Wind was awful down here all day, working with tipper trucks I was half expecting one to go over or a sheet to come flying across the yard...all was well though. Saw some footage on the telly of a 146 taking off from Birmingham, it was practically broadside across the runway by the time it got airborne!

Makes a change to see the rest of the UK getting something close to what we get most of the winter up here.
Having said that I was saddened to hear of fatalities and injuries due to the weather - something we seldom get even though our Hebridean weather is far more severe.
Oddly enough our weather today was typical late winter; sunny skies, no wind and snowy hills.

Very poor here too today. The road outside the pub was closed for about 3hrs as a tree had come down and hit a car off toward Pangbourne. One of the occupants was killed and the other walked away with minor injuries. My assistant manager got a call from his dad to say that their grandson/nephew had been injured in a car by a falling tree and suffered a broken leg.. that down in Wiltshire.
The week-old felt stayed on one of my sheds so some good news!!

I had the pleasure? of coming into EGKK this morning on a 777. It was sporty enough with the wind pretty much straight down gusting just shy of 40kts. God alone knows what it must have been like this afternoon when it really got going
Cheers

I had to abandon a work trip to Liverpool today and glad I did.
Very sad to hear of the deaths, including the MD of Birmingham Airport.

Started work at 1130 this morning and didn't dispatch my first flight until 2030. LCY had very few movements until this evening and VLM only sent 6 aircraft in.
Winds were 41 knots gusting 59 knots and we also had a D328 jump it's chocks.
Such a strenuous day
