The HS.801 is the Nimrod

That's a Nimrod prototype.

Modified Comet..it retained all the windows and lacked some of the Nimrod bits, although a lot was added later as this one flew until about 1982.

There were two...one of which was Avon powered, the other Spey.

Ahh. Thanks. Looks cool with the windows. Should've kept them.

Yeah....but even when they went into service there were a few more windows than now...not many though.....and the design was a lot cleaner

Over the years the bits have swollen and extra bits have been added and now with the MR4 it is quite a hideous beast

In the early days it still retained some of the Comets elegance.

The Nimrod is perhaps one of the better examples of how the need to do the job has no sympathy for beauty.

The MR.4 even still retains the 'Finlets' on the Tailplanes (fitted to counter balance the re-fuelling probe.) And they're bigger! You'd be forgiven for thinking that they would have come up with another idea for that with the MR.4.

I must be the only one who really likes how the MRA4 looks; it appears as though it really means buisness and is so delightfully ugly as to have quite a bit of charm.
